For years mainstream sites have worked together when it comes to ranking their websites. But in the adult industry we seem to all go out of our way not to. Even though if we were to work together it would help us each make more money. Then one day I realized that we were all so busy on sites like GFY feeding each other misinformation that maybe we didn’t really know ourselves how it all worked. Maybe we didn’t realize there are things we can do to help each other and in the end, ourselves when it comes to SEO. Just because another website is out there, doesn’t automatically make them your enemy.

So what I’ve decided to do today is break it down for you, step by step in very simplistic terms. All I ask in return, is if you find any of this information at all helpful to you, you pass it on by tweeting about it or posting it on your facebook page. That’s a fair trade, right?

This little blue box is your website. It has no page rank, no backlinks, no social authority, no age – since it’s a new domain name, and no indexed pages, since you just started your website. In essence your in an SEO dead zone. But that’s okay because your site is new and we are going to work together to change that.

There is nothing you can do to change the age of your domain name. Only time itself can do that. But there are things you can do to effect the other factors that search engines like Google look at when it comes to ranking your website.

First let’s start with the site itself. For this example purpose we are going to pretend like your website is a free site dedicated to blondes with big tits. Your website, as with all must start off with the main page. This is the main menu if you will. It is the first page that loads when someone goes to YOURDOMAINNAME.com. Since the theme of your website is blondes with big tits, one will assume you worked hard and found a decent domain name that fit within the theme. ie: BlondesWithBigTits.com or BigTitBlondes.com or something along those lines.

The front page of your website needs a few things. It needs to clearly define what your keywords are. This means that on that page you need to have a unique title for that page, the meta description of your website should also repeat that phrase. So the title of your website should be Blondes with Big Tits.

But also keep in mind when it comes to your title, search engines recommend a minimum of 40 characters. So if your title is below that you can use the space to add keyword variations or create compelling call-to-action copy. Keep in mind also that your title needs to be unique on every single page. If you have 283 pages in your website, you need to have 283 unique titles. Page 1: Your Site Name – Some other keyword. Page 2 could be like Your Site Name – Name of whatever page 2 is – some special page 2 keyword.

In the description you need to put your keywords (Blondes with Big Tits) one time. Your meta description needs to be between 150 – 160 characters in length. If your meta description is to long or to short it could cost you some valuable SEO points. Meta descriptions can be any length but search engines generally truncate snippets longer than 160 characters. It’s also important to note that you do not want to use quotes or any special characters in your meta descriptions. If you do then Google will cut off the description.

Let’s look to see exactly how search engines like Google and Bing use titles and meta descriptions.

Title of the Page: Hot Sex Positions - Crazy Hot Sex Moves - Cosmopolitan

Meta Description: Sex & Love ... With these scorching bedroom tricks and sex positions, you may have to put the ....

URL: www.cosmopolitan.com/crazy-hot-sex-positions

When you are writing up your meta description and titles you have to remember it will be seen by real people and if they aren’t done right, people won’t want to click on them so ranking high will be pointless because even if you are #1 or #2, nobody is actually clicking through. So yes, what you say in your title and meta description really does matter. Consider it your best and most valuable text ad.

Now on the page itself somewhere you need to include with H1 tags your keyword – Blondes with Big Tits. You need to include Blondes with Big Tits somewhere at least two times in the body of the text on that page. You also need to make sure your images alt tag has your keyword phrase. How many times you actually include it in the text of the page will depend greatly on how much text overall you have on the page. This is what they call keyword density. Which basically mean you count up every single word used on the page, then you calculate what percentage you use your desired keyword. You don’t really have to do this by hand – wordpress plugins like like SEO Yoast will do that for you and help guide you what a good percentage is – typically 5% of so. In general thought you want to keep it at a minimum of two times.

Think about it this way … if your website is dedicated to blue shoes, how would Google know that? It knows that of course by counting the number of times your page talks about blue shoes. The more you talk about it, the more obvious it is to Google that is what your site is about. Of course there is a point when you go to far and talk about it to many times and then Google starts to punish you for it. They figure if you talk about it to much then you are purposely trying to what they call “over optimize” your site and then they punish you for it. So there is where you have to figure out the fine line of what is enough and what is far to much. There is no real way for any of us to know for sure and keyword density doesn’t play the role that it used to in SEO but if anyone tells you that it doesn’t matter really is a dumb ass or purposely telling you miss information to screw with you. Of course it matters. How will Google (or any search engine for that matter) really know what your site is about if you don’t make a conscience effort to talk about it? Duh!

Define your keywords. ie: Blondes with Big Tits

Put your keywords in the title

Put your keywords in the meta description

Put your keywords in at least two different parts within the body of your text on the page.

Put your keywords within h1 tags on your page.

Make appropriate use of sub-headings (or h2) tags.

Put your keywords in at least one alt tags on the images on your page.

Now that you have done all of that we need to talk about the text on the page. Pictures may be pretty but search engines prefer text and lots of it. The body of your page should never have less than 300 words and ideally you would want as many as 500. And even more importantly, what you put needs to be unique. That means you just can’t go copy and paste what someone else has written. You need to write it yourself and it needs to be real sentences that are easy to read. Believe it or not, search engines have the technology to sense real from fake content. They do this based on what is called the Flesch Reading Ease test, which is designed to indicate comprehension difficulty when reading a passage of contemporary academic English. If your text is considered fairly difficult to read it can give you a lower score and that can hurt your SEO. Search Engines like text that is unique, plentiful and easy to read.

So at this point your website includes one page. You have a domain name that reflects the theme of your website, you have a unique title that is the appropriate length and has the keywords for your site in it. You wrote a killer meta description that makes anyone who reads it want to visit your website. You’ve gotten at least 300 to 500 words of text in the body of your main page and have found at least two or three great places to put your keywords in. Your page has a couple images and you made sure on the alt tags to properly include your keywords.

Now assuming you did all of those things, it is time to move on to the other pages on your website. You made sure that every page you create is at least 300 words long – 500 to 700 minimum is better but do the best you can. You have a unique title for every page and did your best to write a fabulously compelling meta description that is also unique for each and every page on your website.

Every page in your website should always includes a text link back to your home page.

Now that you have your website in the best possible shape it can be in, it is time to move forward with your plans for SEO domination and that means reaching out to others.

I would hope by now you’ve setup a twitter account for your website. You can use a site like Tweepi to find people to follow. In theory you can build up a following a few ways (without buying followers – who won’t help you at all in terms of seo). Typically if you follow someone they will follow you back. So you can use Tweepi to find people tweeting about things your site is about or people you’ve posted pictures of in your site and follow them. Hopefully they will follow you back. Another thing you can do is tweet often and use hashtags. #sex #porn #naked #nsfw #tits #lesbians #sluts. All fun and relevant. So when people are on twitter looking for porn they do a twitter search and if you used the hashtag #porn chances are your tweet will appear and you have a chance of getting new followers that way.

Getting followers is only half the battle. Once you get them you need to encourage them to retweet what you tweet. So what you can do is post a picture of a hot girl and then say something like RT if you want more pics like this or RT if you love big tits … or whatever – you get the idea, right? Retweets matter and right now seem to count heavily. That may change in the future (as with all things in the SEO world) but for now they do matter.

Now that is only step one. Back on your website hopefully you installed the social shares buttons on your pages so that if people visit your site that can with one simple click share your page with others. These social shares are a very important step in your SEO plan. Make sure you consider social sharing carefully in your design. Social sharing is very important. Social networking has recently become a big way of how search engines see your website. The more people like your site or tweets about it, the more it will matter to your rankings.

Also on the note of tweeting, I want to say that people don’t want to follow someone who does nothing but tweet ads or links to their website. It really does matter what you say to your followers. Tweet about random things … fun facts and interesting things. They don’t have to always be about sex. Just be a normal person and chat about normal things like TV shows you watched or books you are reading. Is some movie star really hot? Talk about her. The more you talk normally the more followers you are going to gain – the more REAL followers who want to read what you are saying and soon enough want to visit your website. They will do so because they will trust you more because to them you suddenly seem to them like a real person, not a dirty spammer.

This information isn’t everything but it’s a good start at helping you understand how the vast world of SEO works.

Social networking sites like Twitter, Google + and Facebook are changing SEO in a major way.

As a result SEO experts are scrambling to figure out the way Google will measure Social Authority. So what is social authority? Social authority looks at who follows you and how you influence those friends and followers. Society authority is about measuring who has the power to influence their friends and fans or what they call a “high engagement”.

Anyone can go out and buy 100,000 twitter followers or Facebook “likes” but in the end that won’t do you any good because those are only fake people or inactive accounts so there will never be that level of engagement that will rank you with a high level of social authority.

One day I seen Kelly Shibari speed about social networking in an online seminar. I then tweeted “@KellyShibari is very well spoken.” She then tweeted me back and said “@MissKelliXXX Aww – I’m just a #nerd lol “

That’s a single level of engagement between one of my followers and me.

“Engagement’ isn’t about something mentioning you on twitter. People often think that for some reason. But the truth is, it’s about you saying something, anything … and then someone responding. That’s a social engagement. The more people that respond to that single thing you said, the higher your level of engagement.

The more you are able to engage your users, the higher you social authority is.

If you want to see some crazy high social authority, let me introduce you to porn star Vicky Vette (@VickyVette). On Valentine’s day Vicyy Vette tweeted a photo.

259 people retweeted the photo, 152 people tagged it as her favorite and two people replied.

This kind of high engagement with her more than 435,000 followers isn’t unusual. This is how you know Vicky Vette’s followers are real. In terms of Social Authority, someone like Vicky Vette is off the charts.

Kim Kardashian is known as a social media darling. On Valentine’s day she too tweeted a picture. She said how she loved a Chanel branded Leggo clutch. Kim Kardashian has over 17 million followers. 302 people retweeted it, 278 favorited it and 13 people commented.

Despite the fact that Kim Kardashian has an astronomically larger number of followers than Vicky Vette, their engagement is pretty in line with each other.

Something else I found interesting was that Vicky Vette has a Klout score of 83 and Kim Kardashian is just a few points higher, with a Klout score of 89. While “Klout” and “Social Authority” don’t necessarily go hand in hand, it still goes to show you that in the end the total number of followers you have, doesn’t mean as much as how well you can engage them.

SEO “tricks” that so called experts tell you about may not work for you in the future or at least not as much as they did in the past. Things are changing quickly and social networking in playing a very big part in that change. In the very near future who links to you could become more important than where the link’s from. In the past if a website that had a high page rank link to your site, it gave it a huge SEO boost. While that is still the case today, in the future it looks to be changing from less about where the link is coming form to WHO the link is coming from.

The new face of SEO is shaping up in a very big way to look into the person giving out the links.

So let’s say you have two people, both of who of who use twitter. Person one has 53,000 followers while the other person has 117. Which of the two people do you think Google will give more credit for your link from?

So in the past while it was all about the authority of the website, in the future search engines are going to start looking at the authority of the person giving the link.

Despite what some people are saying, I do think that high authority websites will always play a part in SEO just as they do today … but in the future those people will personal authority, well … they are going to start really playing a big part as well.

So next time you wonder if you should really work on building up your social network following, the big SEO impact of the future should motivate you to do just that.

In my book (book.kelli.net) I talk about placing an appropriate number of ads on a web page. Apparently I wasn’t clear on the subject because some people think much like the state of Texas does and consider bigger is always better. But you know what? They are wrong.

I had an experienced webmaster contact me after he read about the release of my book. he told me that he purchased it and read it from cover to cover and that pretty much he had been doing all that I said in my book but he was still struggling to make any money from his website.

I asked him for his website address so that I can take a look. While it is true he had followed some of what I said, he did have one glaring mistake. On the first page of his website he had not 1 or or even 3 or 4 ads. He had 12. TWELVE ADS ON A SINGLE PAGE!

Why is that a bad thing? There are 3 main reasons really …

It clutters the page. To much confusion on a page design is a bad thing. A bad design also lowers surfer trust. So that means they are also less likely to spend money on anything because they trust you less.

It makes the page load slower. Slower loading pages means you have a higher bounce rate and it hurts your overall SEO efforts.

To many outgoing links can cause search engines like Google to give you SEO penalties which could then cause you to get less traffic in the first place.

I get that you want to make money with your website, I really do but throwing everything including the kitchen sink at your website isn’t going to help you do that. Limit your total number of ads per page to 1 or 2. Not 5 or 6, not 12 — ONE OR TWO.

Then focus your efforts on making your site better. The higher quality your site is, the more likely your surfers will be to click on your ads because now they trust your site more.

You hear people talking all of the time about the value of a great domain name but surprisingly not many people really get it. So when I came across this article from Inc. Magazine I just knew I had to share it with you all. I knew this would help explain so perfectly why a single website, with a great name and the right idea can be huge and that anyone can do it. Well anyone who can get their hands on one of the few parked gems out there like this guy did.

If you are curious what your domain name is worth and don’t want to buy a professional appraisal you can always use these automated domain name valuation tools just for fun. They aren’t exactly 100% accurate but they are free and do give you some general idea if you have something of interest.

____

What a Killer Domain Name Is Really Worth

[source] Serial entrepreneur Jesse Stein bought the domain SportsMemorabilia.com for $12,500 and turned it into a $19.5 million retail business.

When Jesse Stein first purchased SportsMemorabilia.com in 2006, it wasn’t much more than a parked domain with sponsored links netting its previous owner a couple hundred dollars a month. In just six years Stein turned it into a recognized retail brand with more than 450,000 products from across 13 sports–taking in $19.5 million in 2012 and earning a three-year growth rate of 270 percent.

Indeed, his Coral Gables, Florida-based SportsMemorabilia.com is one of the companies vying for a spot on the 2013 Inc. 5000. As applications arrive, we thought it would be worthwhile to shine a spotlight on some of these fast-growing private companies.

Stein, a serial entrepreneur and Wharton graduate, was inspired to buy the domain after attending a Las Vegas conference that suggested there was money to be made in e-commerce sites with “category killing” domain names. Stein began pursuing some 200 category-defining domain names–such as hobbies, biking, and boating.com–with the hopes of turning the ones that showed potential into e-commerce empires.

SportsMemorabilia.com was the first one of these killer domains that looked promising, so Stein purchased it for $12,500 and set about transforming it into a fully functioning website where customers could buy authentic, signed sports paraphernalia.

“I bought it and then realized that I know absolutely nothing about sports–and that was going to be a serious problem,” says Stein, who brought on Stefan Tesoriero as CEO and became the non-executive chairman of SportsMemorabilia.com. Tesoriero had extensive sports marketing experience with the New York Islanders.

“I’ve always had this policy of hiring people who are much more talented than I am and then stepping out of the way,” Stein says. “So I gave a very significant slice of the equity to the top 10 executives, and basically said, ‘Guys, this is your business now. Run with it.’”

Stein realized that his competitors in the sports memorabilia industry had not yet woken up to the reality of the Internet, and with background in SEO, he instructed Tesoriero that the first step for the company was Google-rank dominance over its competitors. But rather than pursuing the typical metadata strategy, the company went for something more organic.

“We started the company by creating content that was meant for actual human consumption–not just stuff that was meant for Google,” Tesoriero says. “We researched the memorabilia industry and wrote articles on the various nuances of collecting and athletes. I conducted a lot of interviews with fan sites about products, players, and what people were looking for at the time. People starting linking to our content and Google started to give us credit and rank us accordingly.”

During this process, the company began building relationships with vendors and producers of signed memorabilia–something that Stein said came very easily with such a category-defining name. SportsMemorabilia.com would index the inventories of their vendors on their website, and the company and the vendor would get a cut with each purchase.

In 2011, the company began purchasing and storing its own merchandise in-house. But Stein says that, where its competitors get obsessed with athletes and memorabilia culture, SportsMemorabilia.com makes its purchases based off of complex forecasting analytics. For example, it’ll buy and store say 50 signed Kobe Bryant basketballs for the first quarter of the year because its algorithm has predicted that 50 is the most likely quantity the company will sell in that given timeframe.

“The trouble with our competition is that they fall in love with the athletes and the memorabilia and it clouds their vision,” Stein says. “We’re removed; we’re totally agnostic. We’re based in Florida, but we love the Lakers just as much as we love the Heat.”

What the heck is “nofollow” and why should I care? Well, “nofollow” is a value that can be assigned to a link to tell some search engines like google that a link should not influence the link target’s ranking. Basically what you are saying is, please Google don’t let this link, whatever it may go to effect my own personal rankings in your search engine, I also don’t want to give that site in which the link goes to any credit (as a backlink). The
nofollow
value was originally suggested to stop the insane amount of comment spam in blogs. Removing the nofollow tag from your site might encourage others to participate in your site, posting comments and visiting your site more often since if they do their website will get a backlink credit. As long as the comments posted aren’t blatant spam then it can also help your site by being updated more often and that improves your own SEO rankings.

A lot of time has passed since it was originally created and a lot of technology to get comment spammers in line. But nowadays it is nearly impossible to remove the “nofollow” link in your wordpress blog. Well not impossible but very hard.

Wordpress has a few plugins that claim to remove the “nofollow” tag from comment links but most I found just flat out don’t work. I have no idea why but rather than messing with a plugin and trying to figure out how to fix someone else’s work I found an easy way to get rid of that stupid “no follow” tag wordpress puts in all comment links by default.

Look in the wp-includes folder for a file called comment-template.php.

Search every reference of “nofollow” on that page and remove it.

For example you’ll find an entry that says something like

$return = “<a href=’$url’ rel=’external nofollow’ class=’url’>$author</a>”;

Fix it up and it now says

$return = “<a href=’$url’ class=’url’>$author</a>”;

In all you should find about 5 “nofollow” related entries that you will need to edit on that page. Save it and now your blog no longer has the nofollow tag. YAH!

I love reading posts on sites like GFY where people poo poo Google and discount how important getting your site Google ready is. Some of the people posting there even go as far as saying “Fuck Google” or “Google isn’t worth it”.

I really do get a chuckle out of those posts when I read them.

Why might you ask? For one very good reason and that is because I know how to read stats and I know how to do math. The kind of math that matters when it comes to my website traffic and my pocketbook.

I know that Google controls more than 60% of the web search market, while the second biggest is Bing who has control of about 30% of the market.

And you want to know what else Google controls? Almost 100% of the mobile search market. More and more today people are using mobile devices including ipads and the more affordable android tablets and even their smart phones to search for things and Google has a total and complete domination of that market with something like 97%.

The amount of people using mobile devices to search has gone up almost 30% in the last 6 months alone. So that means that Google completely controls a market with insane growth. How is that not important to your site?

So if I want to try and get the attention of those mobile users via search engines, I’m going to have to do so using Google.

If you are ignoring numbers like that then you are not a savvy business person. Person after person on GFY predicts that Google’s domination is over. Yet Google’s 4th quarter earnings for 2012 went up 36%. In today’s economy to say your earnings went up $14.4 billion is something insanely impressive.

Right now the economy is a nightmare for just about everyone, except Google. They have shown insane growth from day one, making record breaking profits every single year they have been in business. This picture says it all. It actually represents Google’s revenue growth for the past few years.

In comparison, Microsoft posted a $492 million 4th quarter loss.

Amazon’s Q4 earnings aren’t out yet but in Q3 they had a loss of $274 million.

Best Buy reports that their earnings are down 97% from the year before.

Retail giant Wal-Mart boasted how their earnings for Q4 2012 beat estimates, but in the end they were still down 15%.

HP Q4 2012 revenue was down 70% and they are operating at a net loss of about $6.9 billion

Verizon Wireless earnings were down nearly $2 billion in the 4th quarter of 2012.

So next time you see someone telling you that Google isn’t worth your time, just keep this post in mind.

But more than that, if you learn anything from this post it should be that just because someone tells you something at a site like GFY, doesn’t necessarily make it true. Sometimes people talk out their ass. Sometimes they like to spread misinformation on purpose so you can’t compete with them and sometimes people are just jack asses and derive pleasure from telling you things that aren’t true.

In cyberspace all websites start out equal. No matter how great you may think your site is, trust me when I say, it’s not. They all start off as mealiness wastes of space … a big whopping zero. It’s nothing personal. It’s just a fact. A new site has no “authority”. But that’s okay. In time that will change the more that changes, and the more authority your site builds up, the more valuable your website becomes. Don’t get me wrong, it’s totally possible for a new site to come out of the gate and make some money and maybe even rank for a keyword or two but in the end trust me when I say, don’t let that confuse you. All new websites, no matter what, start out with no authority and in the big picture that means you are a big fat zero. At least in terms of SEO.

But like I said before, in time this changes. In fact, with just time itself that changes. There is a metric known as domain age and the older your domain is, the more authority you are given. So basically just because your site has been around awhile, you are automatically given a certain level of respect or “authority”. The longer your site has been around, the more aged it becomes and the more of an aged bonus you get.

Then one day say someone tweets about your website or posts on their facebook page about it. Maybe their pin one of your pictures on pinterest or reblog you on tumblr. Whatever it doesn’t matter. It’s all basically the same and now you are getting social and this gives you some street cred. The more social networking sites that are pushing your site, the more social bonus you get and this in turn gives your site the street cred or social media authority bonus.

Now keep in mind with each of these factors, one single thing alone won’t do anything for you. It’s all a part of a big pie. Each bonus or metric can only do so much for you, even if you have the max possible bonus for that given thing, it still only possible to get so much. Say in all the whole pie is worth 100 and domain age is worth 10 and social networking is worth 10. So let’s say in your pie you have 3 points for domain age, and 10 points for social networking, your site is still only worth 13 points. No matter how popular your site may be with social networks, that bonus still won’t ever go beyond 10 points.

Of course all that traffic from social media will bring you other things, like more traffic and that’s always a good thing but in terms of domain authority or SEO bonuses, there is a max cap. Now that the common folk are talking about your site in social media you have the mainstream media or the big boys who mention your site by now in reference. They don’t even have to link to you, but well a link is always great but in this one particular case it’s called the media citation metric.

For example, say you are at a website that talks about some hot new car. Now say how it mentions that car got a 5+ rating in consumer reports. That’s a media citation and some sites get mentioned like that more often than others and it is those sites who get the media citation bonus. Another example of a media citation in our industry is AVN. Every time another website mentions that a movie got a (whatever) star rating from AVN. That counts as a media citation and plays into how much of a media citation bonus AVN.com gets. The more often AVN is cited in other media as a reference, then the bigger that bonus is. Another case in point … Fame Registry. This site ranks the popularity of porn stars each month. Every time someone issues a press release that says so and so is in the top 100 or top 10 at Fame Registry or won the whatever award for Fame Registry, that is a media citation and gives that site a SEO bonus. This is a fairly new metric so nobody can really say for sure how much of a bonus it gives those sites but some initial results seem to be rather promising as it being a big bonus.

Next there is the friends and family bonus. Well that’s what I call it. But really it’s the bonus that matters to almost everyone else as it is the most common one out there.

If you have a website and someone else links to your website, you get a bonus. The more people that link to you, the more of a bonus you get. The more authority that website has that is linking to you, will directly effect how much of a bonus you get. There is no way to know for sure as Google doesn’t publish its trade secrets but through testing some people have been able to guesstimate that a single PR3 link is worth more than 20 PR1 links. And a link from a site with a page rank of 5 … well as you can imagine is far more valuable than all of those combined, plus some.

Once you get your site into the PR4 or higher range, you are doing great and have really proven yourself to matter to Google and to ad buyers who all of the sudden will start knocking on your door to buy ad space from you.

Porn blogs are all the rage. 100s of new porn related blogs go up every single day and it’s understandable since if it’s done right, a good blog can earn you some nice pocket change each month. But before you run out and start your own, you might want to stop for just a moment and read the fine print of the site you are thinking of blogging on. Case in point … blogger. While it’s a great blogging service, in that it’s free, easy to use and can give your other sites a SEO boost, did you know they don’t allow blogs for the purpose of financial gain?

In other words, any porn blog that is started on blogger can get deleted at any time, without warning so all of that hard work was for not.

Wordpress.com hosted blogs, same thing only even more so since blogger will allow a limited amount of adult content within reason and as long as there is no clear intention of commercial gain, while wordpress apparently doesn’t like any sign of it for any reason on their free hosted blog service.

Now here is the thing …. this also means that any of your competitors or someone you’ve pissed off can also contact Google or WordPress and report your blog and chances are, it will get removed. Trust me when I say, Google isn’t half as friendly as people tend to think they are when it comes to porn.

So just keep that in mind the next time you want to start an adult blog.

Testing out the calculations for the past few months in secret. I tried to pick a selection of mainstream male performers who are currently active and then track their popularity based on a couple of factors including the popularity of their website, social networking popularity, keyword frequency and how many times each day someone Google’s them (so monthly search popularity).

So what have I come up with in terms of who the most popular male porn stars are?

Someone asked me a very interesting question today and that was …. “Why do porn stars blog? Does it even matter? Does it really even help them in any way?” Not really all that surprising to anyone with even the slightest knowledge in PR the answer is a big fat HELL YES IT MATTERS.

And here is the simple reason why …. the more things you do that draw positive attention to yourself, the more fans you are likely to gain. The more fans you have the more people want ot see your work. The more people want ot see your work the more producers are likely to sell of your product and let’s be real in the end what we are producing is a PRODUCT and that product is about making money so the more product you can move the more money they make the more likely they are to want to hire you because the more money you can make them. See how all that works?

So that means if you setup a blog and start posting pictures and stories about your life, that’s great and the more you do it, the more “traffic” you will generate which is just another way of saying, the more fans will see your blog. And that is how the cycle begins. A small blog who maybe sees one or two posts a week might get 100 or 200 visitors a day, which is a few thousand fans a month. Someone who blogs more often and does much longer posts (the longer posts almost always generate more traffic) can get around 1,000 to 5,000 visitors in a single day and that is really your goal … the target you want to reach in terms of generating traffic. If your blog is generating as much as 1 to 5k “unique” visitors a day then that gives you bargaining power with producers because then you have reached a point where everything you say has a deep impact to potential consumers of their product. But that’s really another story for another day.

“I tweet is that enough?” No it’s not. A blog is a very different thing than a twitter account and while it is true you can post pictures and communicate with fans via twitter, it doesn’t generate “traffic” for you (your brand) in the same way that a blog would or does. Twitter, while a very important part of your overall marketing strategy, is really designed for the here and now, short snippets of your life … hi, hello … on the set, going to get ice cream. While a blog is meant for more in-depth conversations.

So long story short, yes every porn star should blog – that means every one of you … it doesn’t matter how famous you are or wished you were, the new guys and the more seasoned performers …. every means all of you.

Any legitimate performer with more than 5,000 followers on twitter who wants help setting up a blog (for free) can click the contact me link on my site and I’ll help them. I will help you for free. All you have to promise to do is actually use it. It’s super duper easy to blog. If you can tweet you can blog. It’s beyond simple. Promise.

So there, now you have no excuse not to be blogging because I will help you setup one for free.

So what should you write about? Really anything that comes to mind. Some girls talk about their favorite shoes while others go into details about sports teams they love. Blog posts are really just stories like you post on twitter only longer. They can be as long as you want them to be. You can tell about how you were on the way to the set and got lost but found this store with awesome lipstick. Your fans don’t really care what you blog about, they just want to get to know more about you and the more you tell them, the more fans you will get.

For many years now mainstream celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Lindsay Lohan and the Real Housewives of whatever have been getting paid to tweet. Porn stars however not so much, yet this is despite the fact that in some cases they have more followers than their mainstream counterparts. I tried a few of the pay per tweet solutions out there but in the end they just weren’t worth our time and I love that the biggest company even charges you a $5 a month inactivity fee, but won’t let you withdraw earnings without reaching a threshold of $100 so any money you might earn quickly gets taken away by fees.

But more than just that I’ve long sought a way for porn stars to make money off of the movies they make after they are released. Mainstream celebs are paid money based on the sale of the movies they are in, so why not porn stars too? Just think how much a porn star would promote a movie (which would boost sales massively) if they had a vested interest in that movie. It just makes sense.

So with the help of some friends I got to work developing a solution specific for our industry that would financially reward porn stars for promoting the movies they have starred in a special pay per tweet website.

I am so happy to share with you all a project that is near and dear to my heart called Red Hot Tweets … this system is design for porn stars to simply put, get paid to tweet. Now porn stars can make money by promoting the movies they have starred in, by tweeting about that movie to their fans.

Don’t you deserve to get paid to promote the movies you are in?

Red Hot Tweets is really simple to use. You log into your twitter account and tell us where you want us to mail your checks to. Once we verify your account is legit and it’s not just some person pretending to be you on a fake twitter account, we’ll offer you up various movies you have been in. You pick which movies and from what studios you wish to promote, click tweet and that’s it.

It’s a real solution for real porn stars made by people in the industry for people in the industry!

We are working with a lot of great studios and producers so not to worry, we’ll have lots of your movies to promote! With Red Hot Tweets everyone wins. Producers and studios get the benefit of their movies having more sales and porn stars benefit by getting paid cold hard cash for promoting that movie for them. How can you now love it? Here are just some of the studios we feature movies of include ….

Today’s subject for webmasters will be anchor text in links. So let’s start by understand what anchor text even is. Anchor text is the text that appears highlighted in a hypertext link and that can be clicked to open the target web page.

And what matters to you is that it’s a very simple and effective way to improve your SEO but often times goes completely overlooked by webmasters. Let me start by showing you a very simple example …

To see my free Sunny Leone website, click here.

Click here is not that descriptive. So what would be a better way to do it?

Be sure and visit my free Sunny Leone website.

Or instead of saying click here to see my Briana Banks website you can instead I would say visit my free Briana Banks website.

Belive it or not, search engines like Google aren’t mind readers. “click here” doesn’t really describe what the link is about. They don’t just magically know what the page you are trying to send someone to is about unless you tell them so instead when you are making a link, link a phrase that actually tells what you are linking to. That is the key to success with anchoring text in links. If you start doing this, even for links within your own website you should start to see a good improvement in terms of SEO with your website.

Click here to see my photos page with blonde babes.

Or

See my photos page with blonde babes.

See how much better that is? Well the search engines see and they will reward you with more traffic for doing it!

Not to long ago I read a post by someone who was selling links on their website. I clicked his link to see his page and found it had like 80 links on there. It was a PR 1 site that isn’t that great but throw in the fact that the page is nothing more than link spam or a “Bad Neighborhood” as Google calls it. So that $10 for a link on his website would end up actually costing you more than you spent because you would get a bad neighborhood penalty.

Google says to avoid links to web spammers or “bad neighborhoods” on the web, as your own ranking may be affected adversely by those links.

So what specifically does Google define as a web spammer or bad neighborhood site?

Buying or selling links that pass PageRank. This includes exchanging money for links, or posts that contain links; exchanging goods or services for links; or sending someone a “free” product in exchange for them writing about it and including a link

Excessive link exchanging (“Link to me and I’ll link to you”)

Linking to web spammers or unrelated sites with the intent to manipulate PageRank

Building partner pages exclusively for the sake of cross-linking

Using automated programs or services to create links to your site

But the reality of the situation is, most people do trade links or buy a link or two. I don’t but I have many many friends who do and I completely get why they do. So now we know what Google says we need to ask ourselves in reality, what is a web spammer?

I often say things like a spam site is any site that has more outgoing links than it does content. That sounds great but what does it really mean? Can we put an actual number on that? Truth is, I can’t. Google doesn’t reveal their formula for detecting spammers or link farmers but through the years I’ve personally avoided sites with more than say 20 to 25 links on a single page. But truth is, it’s probably more like 40 to 50. I just like to err on the site of safety.

So if you come across some site that has a bunch of text links on it. That right away should put up a red flag with you.

You could go to Google and check to see if the site is banned, as often Google bans sites like that but not always. To check to see if a site is banned on Google go to Google.com and enter this in the search box – site: URL.

If your query into a site at Google returns no results that means the site is banned and well that one is obvious … that one you just flat out don’t want you link in any way associated with that site. But there are a lot of spam sites out there not banned so the only way to know if to use common sense. If you find a website with a bunch of text links, don’t add yours to that mess. It really is that simple.

That is the best way to keep your site out of bad neighborhoods. If you find your site is on a bad site and can’t get them to remove it simply use the newly released disavow links tool from Google Webmaster Tools. Bing also has a similar feature in their own webmasters tools section of their site.

Some people have asked me to be more clear on how all this penalty stuff works. This is a very simplistic description but know in reality it’s a much more complex process.

Once you put your website up on the internet you get a score of 0. Search engines like Google and Bing will index your website and you may start to get a little bit of traffic from them including you in their database but you aren’t really all that trusted of a source since you a new site with an authority level of 0.

You add Google analytics to your website and you see that you’ve done such a great job making your website and it’s so beyond fabulous that you have a very low bounce rate and people who visit you stay on your site an average of 2+ minutes. This is great and because of the high quality of your website google has now given you some more bonus points. We don’t really know how many bonus points you get for that kind of stuff but for fun we’ll just say 10 points.

You have a couple friends (let’s with 5 of them) with websites and they each provide a link to your site. Their sites aren’t really all that great or well known, none of them are over a PR1 but hey, a link is a link, right?

Well their 5 links equal about 1 point (if even that).

One day you post some information that is really informative and some big site links to it. That site is a PR5 site. That single PR 5 link just gave you 5 points.

Now your 0 site has 16 points. You are off to a great start! As time goes you will get more points and become even more “authoritative” in the eyes of Google and get even more traffic from Google as a result.

Then one day for some reason you decide to buy a link on some page that is later deemed by Google as a bad neighborhood. Now you lost 25 points. So your 16 points is now down to -9.

So now you see how it all works. Of course there is much more that goes into the whole SEO process but that scenario will at least give you the basic idea.

A Google employee, a tech lead for the actual search engine, recently did a video which she said she was going to discuss the 5 most common SEO mistakes. I thought, omg great! I’m going to listen to this video and use the knowledge I learn from this and write up my own blog post to help other webmasters. Sadly the only thing I actually learned from this video by this chick was that the rumors really are true. Google really does put out total and complete bullshit to confuse the fuck out of people and sell their hyped story that SEO doesn’t exsist.

This educational video went on for 10 minutes talking about no real SEO advice at all. Instead it was a story about how you could build up the quality of your website and define the value prop. It was so horrible. I just wanted to scream to her …. bitch we aren’t stupid. Shut the hell up already! We know that we need to define the value of our product or service but it has not a fucking thing to do with SEO. So please shut up and stop trying to feed us your bullshit Google propaganda. We all know SEO exists. We know that you people at Google want us to believe there are no secrets or things you can do to improve your rankings short of building a better website. -rolls eyes- I’m now so highly annoyed at Google for wasting 10 minutes of my life watching this stupid video full of propaganda poo.

In fact in her video she even goes as far to say don’t do any of those key SEO techniques that gurus tell you to. That instead you should spend that time on improving the quality of your site.

Wait … what??!! Forget about things like unique titles and relevant meta descriptions and instead just focus on better site navigation and design? Are you kidding me?

Her other advice is to stay fresh and relevant and to attract buzz use +1s. LOL Of course she had to encourage you to use Google’s +1 service.

So after waiting 10 minutes of my time watching their stupid video I decided I still wanted to write this post but unlike this fake bitch who I still want to slap across her stupid face for wasting my time and lying to me and others about SEO …where was I going with this? Oh yes … unlike the dumb google bitch, I want to try and actually help you guys with some SEO advice.

But instead of making a top 10 list of SEO mistakes, instead I thought I would concentrate on just the one .. the one that has been talked about to death as of late.

And that mistake is building low value backlinks.

It’s important that you have links to your website. Without them … well, it’s not even speakable. The more quality links you have to your website, the more search engines like Google value your website.

But on the other end of things, Low value backlinks which includes those from spam or irrelevant sites or sites built solely for the purpose of pushing out links, could actually damage to your site’s SEO. Google tech’s aren’t half as stupid as many people seem to think they are. So don’t think your little tricks are going to do you any good.

Despite what people may think, 1000 low quality links don’t equal to a single good 1.

Someone awhile ago put out there that 1 link from a PR 1 site = 1 point while 1 link from a PR 4 site = 4 points so the theory came about that 1,000 links from a PR site was just as good as 2 or 3 from a PR 4 ste. It’s not.
1,000 shitty links may equal 5 points total, MAYBE, while a single link from a site who has a PR 4 or PR5 may be worth 50 points. Truth is, not a single one of us know the formula. Only Google does but through experience and lots of testing we’ve learned low quality links like don’t do you any good and that most especially includes putting your link on a site with 100 others.

If a site has more than 20 links on the page, it isn’t going to do you any good. Seriously it isn’t. It’s link spam and it’s a waste of time to be on that site. Period.

Use sites like Open Site Explorer from SEO moz to find out how valuable your links are and how many you have. Look at how many high quality links you have and if you don’t have enough, get some. Avoid buying links on sites that have more than 10 links on a single page. They are a waste of your time and money.

So you want to start your own porn blog but you don’t know where to start? Well then my friend you have come to the right place. This article is going to discuss in detail every step you need to take to start your own website and get this …

ACTUALLY MAKE MONEY FROM IT!

Before we get started though let me be clear about something … I don’t pretend to know everything. What I teach you in just my attempt to share with you some things I’ve learned in the last 16 years in the industry. I have no doubt there are other things you can do and that’s great if you come up with them. This really is just meant as a simple template you can follow to start your first porn blog and make a few bucks with it. Now let’s begin!

Before you even begin you need to decide what your site is going to be about. You need a very specific niche or theme for your site. Some examples of a good theme would be like blondes with big tits or brunettes with blue eyes or porn stars with natural boobies. In this case, our sample blog is going to be called red headed hookers. Your “theme” or “niche” is going to be red headed hookers and this means that you need to head over to godaddy and register your domain name. Your domain name should include your keywords. Ideally you would want RedHeadedHookers.com but chances are someone else already owns this domain name so try and find a variation like .info or .net maybe or use dashes like red-headed-hookers. The idea here is to try and get a domain name that includes your desired keywords or “theme” / “niche”. Red Headed Hookers is just one niche or theme idea. Your blog should be something that you like. Some other examples could be like blonde lesbians or hookers in heals or porn stars with natural breasts.

Your keywords for this pretend sample blog (red headed hookes) aren’t exactly high volume but that’s okay. By high volume, I mean the number of times per day someone google’s the keyword phrase “red headed hookers”. This is your starter blog so don’t worry about the low volume of searchers. Your goal here is to learn from this experience. You aren’t going into this expecting to make $100k a year with this one blog. This blog should (if done right) make you a few hundred bucks a month. But you can take what you learned from this blog and make even more with your next blog!

So moving on, now you have your domain name and went on over to webair and signed up for your hosting account. You logged into your control panel and clicked the install wordpress button (oh yes it is that easy).

Now that you have wordpress installed you have a few plugins that you want to get. The first two are for security reasons. There are a lot of wordpress users out there so they make a ton of great plugins but there are also a lot of jack asses out there who will go out of their way to try and hack your site too so that being said, click plugins, then add new and search for wp-firewall and you’ll find one called “WordPress Firewall 2“, now install it. Next find one called block bad queries, now install the one called Block Bad Queries (BBQ). With those two plugins installed and activated you can now search for one called yoast. When you search plug-ins for yoast you’ll see a problem called WordPress SEO by Yoast. This is the one you want to install. This program will help you great when it comes to SEO for your new blog.

CHOSING AN AFFILIATE PROGRAM

So now you have the basics down. We’ll just assume you found a theme you like and now it’s time to find some affiliate programs so you can make money. Since in our sample we are going with the theme of red headed hookers we will want to find affiliate programs. Since most affiliate programs will have red headed chicks in some way or another, it shouldn’t be to hard to find a few you like. Red Light District should have some, Premium Cash … those are two good ones to start with. I would say Vivid Cash but really their people are so beyond rude, it’s not worth dealing with them until they learn to have some better manners.

Now before moving on, I’ll tell you a little secret ….. while website related affiliate programs are a must, you don’t want to overlook a good movie store affiliate program. Go head on over to Gamelink now and sign up for an account. People are so busy talking about how movie sales are down, so many many stopped promoting DVD sales all together but that’s a big mistake because while it may be true movie sales have dropped, they aren’t gone all together and that means you have less competition in this area and it’s a great source of extra cash.

Now we are actually going to make our first post with your gamelink affiliate link (because it is easiest to explain).

Let’s go on over to the gamelink website (we will assume you’ve already signed up for their affiliate program and have your affiliate ID. Now use their search for Audrey Hollander. Now find a movie that you like, starring her with Audrey on the cover. I picked the first on that came up which is Audrey Hollander Cock Star. IMPORTANT NOTE: At the end of the link make sure YOUR affiliate id is listed. See how mine ends with ref=klubeklli? Well in your case klubkelli should be replaced with YOUR gamelink affiliate ID. http://www.gamelink.com/display_product.jhtml?id=343480&ref=klubkelli

Now what do you write about? Really you could make your first pots about anything. You can describe the movie. But since you haven’t seen it, then do your best to talk about it. The more UNIQUE text you can write about this movie, the better. Write anything you can think of about it. Sure you can list the given description and cast but don’t just leave it at that. The more you type, the better. Search engines LOVE TEXT. So for example purposes, here is what I wrote up for the post. AGAIN THIS IS JUST AN EXAMPLE.

Audrey Hollander Cock Star

Over the years Audrey Hollander has starred in many great movies and Audrey Hollander Cock Star is no different. Audrey Hollander stuffs every hole to the breaking point and beyond with massive cocks in this all out masterpiece of her sexual depravity! She sucks and fucks even more random degenerates than usual! Audrey Hollander is in every scene and this DVD lasts for almost 2 hours! Audrey Hollander Cock Star was first released in May of 2010 and directed by Jim Powers.

[DVD] or [VOD]

My loving husband Otto Bauer asked me to write you this thank you note, He was so excited when you called to book me for this movie. He said I would have to stretch my mouth, pussy and asshole further and wider than I ever had before and that I’d need to rock and suck even more random degenerates than usual, but that he was going to be paid handsomely for my efforts. He used most of the money to buy a new camper top for his truck and like 6 cases of beer Otto says that when he traded a motor for a 1972 pickup truck for a bottle of whiskey to my dad in exchange for me. It was one of the best investments of his life. He’s very sweet and good to me you guys are awesome. Thank you! Thank You! -XOXO, Audrey & Otto

Scene 1: Audrey Hollander with the fuck machine

Scene 2: Audrey Hollander with Otto Bauer

Scene 3: Audrey Hollander with Anthony Hardwood

Scene 4: Audrey Hollander with Rick Masters

I checked and AVN didn’t rate this movie which was really to bad. I’m sure with all the anal sex Audrey does in this movie it would have gotten a great ass rating.

Audrey Hollander is one of my favorite porn stars. She never fails to please. There is just nothing she won’t do. While it is true she is best known for her wild and crazy anal but that’s not all she does. Just after this movie was released she was nominated for AVN’s Best All-Girl Group Sex Scene for the work she did in the movie Hocus Pocus XXX where she was in a lesbian orgy with Nikki Benz, Eva Angelina, Sunny Leone, Kiara Diane and Madelyn Marie.

[DVD] or [VOD]

And after making your post don’t forget the yoast part! Remember every single post you make needs to have a unique title and other relevant requested YOAST information filled out.

I realize it’s not always easy coming up with something to say, especially about a movie you’ve never seen but it’s important to try. The more you can say in your post the more traffic your site will attract from search engines which translates into, the more original things you can think to say in your posts, the more money your blog is going to make.

All to often when people make a porn blog what they do is post a single picture or two from a photo set, use one line to say who is in the pic and then link to the free hosted gallery for that set. Then those people wonder why their blog isn’t doing so well.

It’s because search engines don’t give a poo about images, they want text text text and more text! Sure posting pictures is great, but you really have to get in there and describe the image or use the image to talk about something else all together. Talk about sexual positions or how girls with really big boobs makes your horny baby! The point is, TALK. You always want to include as much text as possible for every single post. While I realize that isn’t always easy, if you can do that, you will by far have a far more successful blog than most people.

Every week Gamelink produces a top selling movie list. Talk about a great resource to make a post about. You can take the top few movies, list them off as the best selling movies of the week but then talk a little about each one. The more you have to say about each movie listed and the people who star in that movie, the better.

You don’t have to just talk about movies either. What about porn stars? You could take a photo of a porn star from a free hosted gallery and post it (then link to the gallery with your affiliate link) and then type up a long post about how you think legs are more attractive than butts.

You could also talk about something interesting like “How many sex partners have you had? According to a survey of adults aged 20 to 59, women have an average of 4 sex partners during their lifetime; men have an average of 7. This according to the National Center for Health Statistics.” In other words, you make a post talking about sexual partners, insert a few affiliate photos and link each of them to the galleries but you text is about sexual partners. It’s unique and might be an interested read and that makes your blog better quality than just a bunch of stupid spam posts.

How about this … “When did you lose your virginity? According to a study done by the Kinsey Institute at California State University, the average male loses his virginity at age 16.9; females average slightly older, at 17.4. And a new study shows that genetics may be a factor: inherited traits, such as impulsivity, can make a person more or less willing to have sex at an earlier age.”

Again while you are making posts about that subject matter you have inserted relevant photos of hot read head’s nude or whatever with a link to that affiliate gallery. You are letting the story draw in the traffic, while the picture sells them on clicking the link.

IMPORTANT POST TIP

Every post you make must have a unique title and meta description. If you installed the SEO yoast plugin like we talked about earlier, at the bottom of your post you have the opportunity to fill out the page title and meta description for each and every post. It’s important than you do that FOR EVERY POST! In our sample post your title could be Audrey Hollander Cock Star (those would be your desired keywords too) and then for the description you would BRIEFLY say what the post is about. Also be sure and use the build in wordpress TAGS feature. You might be surprised how much a few good and relevant tags can do for you traffic wise.

DON’T BE AN AD WHORE

A common mistake that newbie webmasters make is loading their page up with ads. They seem to go crazy with filling every spot they can in sidebars and footers with banner ads. This is a huge mistake and will probably cost you far more money than it will ever make you. A low quality site, bombarding the user with ads won’t encourage anyone to click on a damn thing. Instead look at my blog as an example. You don’t see a bunch of ads no do you? Of course not! You should always – always – always have more content than advertisements. While it’s okay to have an ad or two on your site, don’t go overboard. Don’t make your site so annoying and trashy that the second people click to arrive on your site they want to leave as fast as they got there. BUILD A QUALITY SITE.

Don’t try and cut corners and do cheap tricks to automate things. Don’t be lazy. Make the posts yourself. Be original. Be unique. Make your blog something people really want to read and you know what? You’ll actually make money with it. You don’t have to be a great writer. It’s sex. Talk about sex and all ways and people will care. People like sex. So how many different ways and subject matters within the confines of sex can you think of to talk about?

WILL A POST A DAY KEEP THE DOCTOR AWAY?

So how many new posts a day should you make? Well to be honest that is up to you. The more posts you make the more often search engines will visit your site to update what you have done. So while it would be great to have 1 to 5 new posts a day, I also realize that’s not always realistic so just do the best you can do. If you find however you aren’t at least doing weekly updates then you aren’t putting enough attention to your blog. Daily updates are best but a post or two a week is acceptable, especially after you’ve been doing it for awhile and have a good base to fall back on. The more posts you have, in time they will start to build you more and more and more traffic.

If you found this post helpful please tweet it or share the link on facebook with others

“Experts” tell us that Facebook has taken a steep downturn while Google + is on the rise. But I’ve learned over the years that these so called “experts” don’t always hit the nail on the head so it got me wondering, who exactly is winning the social network shares race right now?

And as luck would have it Clint Eastwood would help provide us the answer.

Anytime some major story hits the mainstream news you have all of these people clicking share share share share share. So when the story hit the news about Clint Eastwood at the recent Republican convention I found a popular site with the story on their blog to see just who is sharing what and with who.

So who do you think wins when it comes to Facebook, Twitter, Google + Linkedin, Pinterest, StumbleUpon. I must admit, I myself was rather surprised with the results. I would have said off the cuff it was no content, of course Facebook has the most and then of course twitter and then probably Google + and then the rest in any random order. I would have however been wrong.

Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin are the top three (in that order), then Stumble Upon then Pinterest and surprisingly last place was +1. Here is a graphic of the results.

Where the results what you thought? To me I was surprised in two ways. First it was that Facebook wasn’t #1 and instead Twitter was in a rather significant lead. The other big surprise to me was the Google + results. Last place? Really? I keep reading about the major surges in Google + use yet clearly it still has a long way to go.

I’m driving down the road this morning and what do I see? An advertisement for maid services but instead of their own website they give our their facebook page instead. No big deal, right? Well, let me share with you a little photograph. It should help clear up this whole concept up for you.

While I’m sure at the time those in charge of marketing for Cezar Capone thought this was a great idea, it was very short sighted of them for a few reasons . First and foremost, the whole point over advertising is to build YOUR brand. So why are you spending money to promote the myspace brand? That’s just silly! Next because of the ever so obvious reason that this photo shows us … how silly do you look now that nobody uses myspace? And last but not least is the wasted resource. Now that myspace is dead, this resource is a waste. Had it just had the website address on it, they could still be using it for promotion years later. But now? Kinda silly to use this pic to promote their website.

Now to be clear, I’m not saying you don’t need social networking sites. Of course you do. They are invaluable resources. But these sites should be used to promote YOUR brand. You shouldn’t be promoting their brand, they should be promoting yours!

I received an email the other day asking an interesting question, one that many new and aspiring webmasters might want to know the answer to, so I thought I would share it with all of you here in hopes that the answer might shed some insight for you as well.

Dear Kelli, I’m starting a new website and a friend of mine who has been rather successful on the web in the past told me to make sure that before I start my new site I pick the right domain name because a good domain name on its own can add value to my website and that later on if I ever decide to sale my website the domain name alone could add significant value. What is the best kind of domain name to get? Can you give me any advice on this?

This is a great question that many new webmasters have and yet the answer can get rather complicated. But not to worry, because I can break it down for you. So to start we will assume your target market is the US. If not then you want one of those foreign domain names and that is really out of my area of expertise. But moving on with the US folks …. there are many types of domain names you can get .com, .net, .org, .biz. .info, .cc, .us, .mobi and the list goes on and on and on and on – yet despite all the available options the only domain name that really has any value would be the dot com.

Notice I did not make mention of the .xxx domain extension? This is for very good reason. Besides the controversy surrounding them, there are some very sound and practical reasons you don’t want to get one of them. First and foremost they are far to expensive. Why pay $100 for something when the others only cost $10? That just doesn’t make sense. Beyond the price, many countries have already flat out blocked access to all .xxx domain names so if you develop a website using it, some visitors may find they can’t access your website. And it’s not just foreign traffic either … some states have already begun to discuss legislation to block or at least partially block access to it. So now you’ve spent all of this money for your great domain name that people can’t visit. Then there is the sponsor issue. While not all websites are created to make money, many are and if you hope to one day get sponsors for your website then you have to consider the controversy with the .xxx domain names and the fact that a long list of companies won’t have anything to do with any website that uses a .xxx. So this means they won’t don’t business with you or sponsor your website, or buy ad space, etc. So in the end, the .xxx domain name just doesn’t make sense to use.

Now moving on, let’s talk about the domain names you can consider. The most valuable we know is the dot com but what about the others? Common sense tells us that a .mobi is only for a mobile website and people always tend to ge the .mobi version of their dot com. So say you are ILoveYouKelli.com then you would get ILoveYouKelli.mobi for the mobile version of your website and redirect all of your mobile traffic that comes to your dot com over to your dot mobi site so we are going to take the .mobi out of the mix from this point on.

So that really leaves us with the following ….

.com

.net

.info

.cc

.us

.biz

.org

Yes there are others you could get but come on … we all know they aren’t worth the money it cost you to register them! So out of all of the extensions listed above we know that the .com is by far the most valuable but what about the rest?

Most people will tell you that if it’s not a dot com, then it’s not worth it. But that’s not always true. Sure most of the time it is but not always. It really depends on the type of site you are creating or the domain name itself. kelli.net is a great domain name, yes Kelli.com is far better but it wasn’t available and for the type of site it is, Kelli.net works fine. But as much as I love my site, in the end the dot com version would have been the most valuable.

Let’s look at another example … I have a website dedicated to porn star Audrey Hollander. The domain name AudreyHollander.com was taken (by her) so based on the type of site it is, what would be the best option? I could have gone with .net but .info seemed far more fitting, as the site was filled with information about Audrey Hollander. So while typically the .net version of a domain name would rank more valuable that the .info, in this particular case the .info was more fitting and as such would be more valuable.

A domain name should be short, include real words (Goodalopolus is a one word domain but it’s not a real word so the value isn’t really poo). A domain name should not include dashes or digits (sorry but ILoveU4eva.com is never going to be valuable). A domain name shouldn’t include abbreviations either. So using these rules, AllForYou.com is far more valuable than All4U.com.

Short (as possible), real words, no dashes, no digits, no abbreviations.

Always go with a dot com when possible. Anything that isn’t a .com, .net. or .info really doesn’t have much value at all. Seriously … don’t waste your time with any of the other extensions at all. The only rare exception would be a URL shortening service so a domain name with the .cc or .us would be fine. But beyond that I can’t imagine a situation where they would have any value.

Out of the 4 domain names below, love dot com is obviously the most valuable but I Love You is just as valuable as Love You, despite it being slightly longer. I Love You Forever is the least valuable of the bunch but it would still be more valuable than LoveU.net or LoveYou.biz.

Love.com

LoveYou.com

ILoveYou.com

ILoveYouForever.com

So now you know the secrets to buying a good domain name. Keep it short (as possible), always try and go with a dot com, use real words, avoid dashes, digits and abbreviations and you should be fine.

With the fiasco that was epass and the millions they stole from countless webmasters, it is understandable that people are hesitant to work with another online payment solution but the truth of the matter is, that can be very short sighted of you. Of course you always want to be careful and you always want to work to protect yourself but don’t just turn away from what could be saving you a lot of money.

Today we are going to take a look at the newest solution which is called Red Pass. Red Pass is directed associated with the billing company Zombaio who over the last two years has gained popularity for their ease of use, easier methods of setup (compared to say ccbill and epoch), NATs compatibility and competitive process pricing. When I setup my Zombaio account I didn’t have to pay the $750 fees that CCBILL and Epoch wanted me to pay and my processing fees are 1% cheaper. 1% may not seem like much but it really can add up over time and the more money I make with them, the less they charge me. If I was really making major bucks in processing a ton of transactions, my fees could be as low as 4.9%.

Red Pass first came to my attention when they were a major sponsor of the XBIZ 2012 awards show last January.

Their sales pitch for it was rather interesting and did catch my attention.

RedPass offers an easy, convenient, secure and inexpensive way to pay your affiliates, models, contractors or employees. With a RedPass Business account you are able to open RedPass accounts for your payees and instantly send payments. The transfers are made in real time and the funds are available on the payee account immediately. RedPass is owned by the same financial institution as Zombaio and the integration and transaction flow between the parties is seamless.

The when I went to their website the first thing I noticed was that to get a Mastercard to use with my Red Pass account would cost me $44.95 a year and for that reason alone I honestly just stopped looking into them. My thought was, I’m not paying some company $45 a year to let me have access to MY money.

But that was very short sighted of me and I didn’t realize it until my sister began bitching one day about how much banks charge you for an incoming wire.

When I make money with my Zombaio billing account they charge me $3.50 to process that payment (send me my money via US Domestic ACH Transfer). My bank charges me an additional $10 for this. I chose to get paid once per month from Zombaio so that means that in a year I spent $162 to get MY money and that’s only if I get paid just once per month. If I increase the number of times I get paid (say weekly) then that $162 suddenly skyrockets to about $700 a year!

Yes I just said that it cost me over $700 a year just to get paid!

Now keep in mind *MY* bank charges me $10 per transaction, your bank may charge a different amount. My sisters bank only charges her $5 per transaction so in her case it would only cost her about $350 a year if she wanted to get paid weekly. I’ve heard some banks charging fees of $11 all the way up to $25. You’ll need to check with your bank to find out what those automated incoming payments are costing you.

So moving on …. now that you know how much it cost you just get collect YOUR money, that $44.95 a year didn’t suddenly look so bad so I decided to look into this whole Red Pass thing a little more closely.

Since I’ve used Zombaio, (their billing company) for the past two years without any trouble, I figured the trust issue was a non issue, at least in the big sense. Obviously I would still keep a close eye on things so that I too won’t fall victim to another scam like so many did before me with companies like ePass and iBill of years ago. I actually was taken by those pieces of shit years ago. -sigh- But that’s a story for another day.

Basic math tells me that it’s cheaper to pay a $44.95 a year to Mastercard for use of their Red Pass pre-paid MasterCard than to pay my $162 a year in bank related fees to get my money sent directly to me. The only problem was that would be the only way I would have access to my money is on a MasterCard debit card. Then I started thinking … while I could ATM out up to $300 a day (for a fee of $3 per transaction) if I had a cash emergency, I didn’t really need to do that. The money I currently get from Zombaio I use to pay bills like NATs and Elevated X and my Internet bill – a companies who accept MasterCard as a payment method and there is no fees involved in those kind of transactions.

Suddenly I realized, it made way more sense for me to make the switch to Red Pass and now every time I make as little as $100 Zombaio transfers that money to my Red Pass account and that costs me only 25 cents to load that money to my MasterCard. So now when I need to pay a bill I just use that MasterCard and I save all that money in bank fees. I also get paid more often which is also nice.

NOW A VERY VERY VERY IMPORTANT WORD OF WARNING. Where all those people from ePass got screwed was they kept thousands of dollars in their “ewallet”. These kinds of accounts are typically without of the realm of government control and protection. So my advice is, no matter how great your working relationship may be with your biller, it’s always better to be safe than sorry so if you get a big batch of money coming in that you don’t want to risk losing forever, load it on your mastercard account and let it sit there instead of in your ewallet.
